ydl 6.1 on firmware 2.53? (80gb)

My ps3 is the 60gb CECHA01 was manufactured november of 06. Running YDL 6.1 on firmware 2.53....

Please report back once you upgrade to 2.6, which you eventually will have to if you use PSN heavily like I do.

i think im giving up..i have burned three copies of ydl and verified after burn. i have tried them in both an 80 gb(4 usb ports memory card readers) and 40 gb ps3(2 usb no memory readers). i have formatted between installs. the only thing i can think of is the bootloader. i could not find it on the disc when i searched for it. i have them on a flash drive. anyone have a link to the most up to date bootloader. is the command i want to type exactly minus the quotes "install_ps3_720p" ? thank you for your help.

Ok well im downloading the 2.60 firmware upgrade as I type this, I'll report back soon as it finishes and I boot up YDL 6.1!!!

Success, I just finished updating to firmware 2.60 and things are sound as a pound still for me.

On the DVD you burned, it should be here:

/PS3/otheros/otheros.bld

If it's not there, sounds like you have a problem with your install DVD. Anyway, here's a link to it:

Just to be sure - you're creating the disc FROM the ISO, not burning the ISO to disc, right? If you're using Windows, you might try a program caled IMGBURN - many have reported success with it.

As for verifying after burn, it's better to verify the ISO with SHA1SUM before the burn to make sure you downloaded it correctly.. Instructions on how to do this should be on the site you downloaded the ISO from.

No - you have to TAB key for it. I don't think typing it works.

Yes, it is confirmed, I have CECHE01.

OK, Here is the updated list. I could not find my Part # anywhere on the PS3, so I checked online one by one starting with 98000 and was able to update the list:


Where can we find the Part # on our PS3? Label/Sticker only lists the Model #.

alright guys i'm back with an update....i upgraded my ps3 firmware to 2.60 and installed ydl 6.1 and it works great...no problem whatsoever....even setting up the internet was easy...thanks for all the help

Network Connection on GNOME works strange, it never seems to connect. I just disabled that (the one that lists available wireless networks), and I just used control panel/network setting to connect.

yes, thank you for making that topic...i actually used scenario 1 but the weird part is that i only had to follow step 1 where you put in your WEP key....when it fully loaded, i was able to use the internet instantly and didn't have to follow the rest

Interesting - I wonder if that's a difference between the PS3s, then.

I wrote those steps on a fresh installation of 6.1 - not an upgrade - using a stock US 60 gig PS3. And - I've definitely had to do those extra steps to get it to work.

But - hey - if it works easier for you - perfect! At least I've captured the steps if it doesn't.

I Tried the same tutorial with my 80 Gb ps3 and only needed one step also. when opened the network config the wireless connection was already active! I am using wep 128 and did not need to use the 0x trick stated in your wifi tips.

Anyways just thought it would be nice for you to know how things go for people using your tuts (which are wonderful btw for new linux persons like me)
