Has ydl 5.01 ntfs support ? because 5.02 doesnt work

Hello guys,

I'm a relatively freshman to linux on ps3. I have had installed ubuntu 7.10 on my PS3 but with a new kernel witch supported wifi, i couldn't mount my 500 GB external Drive with NTFS FS with it.

So i read in this and other forums that Yellow Dog Linux supports NTFS (read only) 'out of the box' . Eager to give it a try i installed yellow dog linux on my PS3 with 2.10 Firmware.
Of course (wouldn't be funny without) i ran in some problems after the installation. No CD/DVD Drive mounted, no WIFI support and so on. I updated to the newer kernel wich fixes wifi funcionality and manualy mounted the Drive. So far so good.

but when i plug in my external drive in, it recognizes it but won't mount. In Nautilus it says ntfs not supportet, the same with 'mount /dev/sda1'
Then i searched for ntfs-3g, but i guess it is not avaiable via 'yum install ntfs-3g' the same for 'ntfsmount'.
I guess YDL Just does not support Ntfs drives. If i type mount --h ther is no -ntfs setting i can add.(correct me if I'm wrong)

My big question is , does YDL 5.01 support usb-NTFS drives??? And if yes, after the wifi kernel upgrade too? (i would download it and install it then)
Because i believe 5.02 doesnt have the Fuse-Module witch is needed for ntfs.

Also I read on an other forum that you need to compile the ntfs functionality to the kernel. Anyone knows something about it?

Help is very appreciated!!

Hopefully you'll let us know how it works out ... I haven't had any need to read an ntfs partition or I would try to help. Good luck!

it's me again!

took some time first download was corrupt and couldn't install it. Second download was not the correct version (shame on me ). Downloaded it a third time and installed 5.01 ydl successfully.

First thing i tried was the ntfs support ....worked !!
Second was the wifi support. Works flawlessly. (only got to enter SSID and channel manually)

so for me it seems that with the PS3 Firmware 2.1 , YDL 5.01 works best!

like i did mentioned i tried ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 with various kernel upgrades ( lerned sometning by doin it,though). At no time i got wifi and ntfs support with the same kernel.

Okey thats from me now need to install some mediaplayers and perhaps chek out bluetooth support (if there is any :) )

I don't know if it was testet because i see many treads with " WIFI not working after 2.10 upgrade", but could a moderator just make a tread that with ydl 5.01 and Firmware 2.10 Wifi works nearly out of the box?

guess could help many out there.

all the best

Thanks for reporting about the NTFS support -- glad to hear it works.

As far as making a thread just to say that 5.0.1 works with FW 2.10 ... well, there's the often ignored Please READ ME before posting thread. I try to point out some differences between 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 there, but I suppose you're right -- it could be in a more conspicuous location... :)

EDIT: there, I updated it ... think I'll change the name, too
